51.3 G-WAVE

Concept

Produced by 51.3 G-WAVE artists NANOOK, Kazuma Ogata, Mitsuko Shimae and Art Director Taku Sato, the artists have created a room influenced by words deeply associated with Japanese culture and space, ZEN GARDEN.

Using Zen as both an inspiration and design principle, ZEN GARDEN is an exaggerated ideal of the stereotypical image of “Zen Japan” laced with the chaotic energy of a modern metropolis like Tokyo. The artists have achieved a fine balance between modern needs and minimalism found in traditional Japanese architecture and Karesansui (Japanese Rock Garden).

Although sophisticated and modern, glimpses of witty obtrusions break the perception of a room that could be taken all too seriously. You are a part of the room installation, with artist feeling like the room is only complete when guests spend time in ZEN GARDEN.

東京を拠点とする若手作家、緒方数馬、NANOOK、Mitsuko Shimaeの三人によるユニット、「51.3 G-Wave」と、キュレーター佐藤拓が手がける作品空間。

「ZEN GARDEN」をキーワードに空間の構成、作品の制作／配置などを行い、宿泊体験を通した一つのインスタレーションとして提示。逆輸入的に歪曲された"ZEN"なイメージを拡張、東京らしいカオス感や間違ったZENの思想を作家三人の感覚で再解釈し空間に落とし込みました。唐突にあるオリエンタルな要素、枯山水的なエッセンスやビジュアル、掛け軸や壺など。未来的でもあり、部分的にはミニマル。整然と混沌が共存している異質な空間を制作。

一見洗練されたシンプルかつモダンなデザインの部屋でありながらも、隅々に捻れた禅が感じられるように部屋は作られており、宿泊者が滞在することによって完成するインスタレーションになっている。
