81 BASTARDS
Produced by artist collective 81 BASTARDS, HAILER acts almost in complete opposition to the 360 mural created in RESPONDER. Linked with an underlying theme of traditional Japanese motifs, HAILER features one of Japan's most iconic artworks, Raijin and Fujin, gods of thunder and wind.
Painted on traditional gold leaf screen made by Masahiro Inoue, 81 BASTARDS took on the challenge of creating a new version of something that has been copied and recreated since its creation in 1620 by Sotatsu Tawaraya. Subtly mixing in aspects of street art, personal style and techniques, the artists have updated one of Japan’s most recognizable artworks.
Making the gods the rooms centerpiece and working with skilled carpenter Sumio Aizawa of SUMAR WORKS, the collective have created a fine balance between tradition and modern luxury, representing their vision of Urban Tokyo Living.
俵屋宗達によって1620年代に描かれて以降最も有名な屏風絵の一つに数えられ、様々な絵師によって模作や模写が繰り返されてきた「風神雷神図」に、1981年生まれのアーティストで構成されるアーティストコレクティブ “81 BASTARDS”が挑む。
表装(屏風の制作)は、現代アートシーンでも活躍する表具師”井上雅博”によるカスタムメイド。また屏風を取り囲む壁面を正面と見立てたベッドボード、蹴上、ライティングなどはSUMAR WORKSが一点物の作品空間として作り上げる。
STUDIO (=東京の未来の都市生活)のコンセプトに基づき、空間全域にわたってアートを成立させるため細微な工夫と配慮がなされた、アーバンライフを送る人々の感性に届く現代の和室に仕上がっている。

An artist collective of 10, 81 BASTARDS is comprised of six painters, a tattoo artist, photographer, videographer and DJ.
A rebellious nature, lust for change and constantly seeking new inspiration is perfectly summed up by the 81 BASTARDS ethos;
“We are sick of doing the same shit, so we are breaking the rules. Stick to your guns!!”

東京のペインターコミュニティから発生し、各々が個性的なアーティストとして世界的に活躍しながらも同世代の価値観で共鳴し合うこの集団はTOKYO発次世代グラフィックイメージの旗手であり、様々なファッションブランドてのコラボレーション商品発売、企業タイアップの壁画制作やライブペイントショウなどの活動も精力的に行っている。
様々なカルチャーの渦中で新しいアートのあり方を実践的に模索していく彼らが考える「アートと暮らし」のあり方はそのまま、東京の未来とも言えるだろう。

SUMAR WORKS (SUMMER WORKS)
Started in 2008 by Sumio Aizawa, SUMAR WORKS specialises in bespoke interior, furniture design and construction for both commercial and private clients, while also providing support to art projects.
Aizawa custom built the bed frame and screen doors in HAILER, perfectly translating the artists vision into his designs.
高円寺をベースに活動を広げる職人、相澤澄雄。この部屋は彼がアーティストのビジョンを汲み取り、形にすることで実現した。
MASAHIRO INOUE
Gold Leaf Screen custom made by Masahiro Inoue, a Hyougu-shi (traditional picture framing craftsman) in Kyoto. Inoue is also an active member of the Kyoto contemporary art scene.
部屋の中心となる金屏風は京都のアートシーンでも活躍を広げる表具師、井上雅博が制作。
